Here is the story of an adult / child confrontation with a difference. When Thomas's mother insists that he wear a new brown snowsuit that is not particularly to his liking, to school, Thomas refuses. Mother wins the battle that ensues, but the war carries on in the classroom, and Thomas is ultimately victorious over the representatives of educational authority. It is apparent, however, even to the uninitiated, that there are no real winners in this type of conflict and that given the proper incentive, children are quite capable of making appropriate decisions without adult coercion.

Munsch's unique sense of humour is superbly complemented by Martchenko's illustrations. The text is quite simple, the action almost predictably repetitious, and the drawings delightfully sympathetic to the ludicrousness of the situation. The ending completes this little satire, being sufficiently tongue-in-cheek to satisfy adults and kids. Fans of Robert Munsch will not be disappointed by his latest book.
