Free-lance writer and broadcaster Barris has collaborated with fellow Albertan Semeniuk to produce this tribute to cowboys who rodeo. This smallish coffee table book begins with a section that briefly outlines the development of rodeo in Canada. The photos that illustrate this section are black and white, from archival collections, and are all identified, The second and third sections of the book contain mostly colour photos by Semeniuk (presumably) with very little textual matter. None of these photos are captioned, but as they are highly evocative and impressionistic this is not always a serious lack. Here we find many action shots; shots of children, cowboys, spectators, horses, cows, and cowboys abound. Many shots are from unusual angles and all are of technical excellence.

This book would be of interest to libraries for browsing material, and for rodeo and photography buffs. The book's use for reference is limited, because of the lack of an index, and because of a paucity of factual material. This attractive book would also make a good gift.
