Where to Eat in Canada was first published in 1971, and, over the years, the number of entries have grown from 225 to five hundred. Restaurants are included from all parts of Canada. The arrangement is alphabetical giving the name of the city and restaurant and includes the street address, telephone number, and opening hours. The introduction includes a list of places by province, travelling from west to east, Yukon to Newfoundland. The style is chatty and informative and includes descriptions of some of the specialities of the house and sometimes gives an indication of price. There are numerous "see" and "see also" references. There is no doubt in my mind that this is a delightful guide to restaurants in Canada. When I have personal experience of the places listed the descriptions tally with my own impressions. I have one reservation: this guide may not be an appropriate purchase for school libraries since few students eat in first-class restaurants and few projects include planning meals on a cross-Canada trip.
