This book covers about a year of their lives when an infant Spider monkey comes under their care. Told in simple, direct language, with warmth and humour, Little describes how quickly Rima became a part of their lives. Everything from trying to feed her, to caring for her various illnesses, and watching her antics as she matures and learns, are included here in great detail. This true story, however, has an unhappy ending. Just as the family were moving on to a new homestead, Rima caught a fever and died. With sadness, but dignity and respect, they lovingly bury Rima. The epilogue explains that while this manuscript was at the publisher's, the Littles contracted a fever in their new home, and only Jan Little survived.
