The PAL kit consists of three parts: the workbook or manual, and two pads of worksheets, the Daily Assignment Sheet and the Daily Study Schedule and Record. According to the explanation for the student provided by the authors, the study kit was designed to help students plan a daily study schedule; to schedule long range assignments; to inventory interests, abilities, skills, and career goals (four times per year); to inventory motivation, concentration, and work environment; to learn to problem solve; and, finally, to provide study habits for taking tests and examinations. In addition, the authors also include hints on writing essays and reading textbook material. Although any combination of the above topics could warrant its own kit, trying to cover all these topics in one was over zealous. Unfortunately what results is that no topic is discussed in enough detail.

In terms of arrangement, the manual explains the use of the worksheets. In no. 1, the Daily Assignment Sheet, the student is required to list homework assignments for each subject. Then in the Daily Study Schedule and Record, no. 2, the student records exactly in what time period each evening he will do assignments. Space is also provided for weekend projects and long-term research. Next, the manual explains the various inventories, identifying when to do them. It is assumed that the student will know how to analyse the results of the inventory to make use of the information. Finally, the manual takes a look at the elements of study, from problem solving to note taking to writing essays. Although major points were emphasized, more time and more examples could have been provided. A glossary is included, along with a useful, though old, bibliography.

Since this kit is labelled a home study kit, it would not be a practical purchase for a library. However, in terms of its usefulness, although the manual could be improved., the price of the kit is worth the worksheets.
