Bobbie Kalman, author of the successful Early Life Settler series, has produced six resource books geared to the social studies curriculum needs for primary grades. The obvious quality of this new series is maintained throughout with a consistent, attractive format and a direct, simple style.

The books are narrated in the first person and are concerned with six basic but very important elements of a child's world; the family, friends, school, the individual, the body, and home life. Each page presents a different aspect of a topic and is supported by rich colour illustrations that are packed with activity and information. Each picture is accompanied by a "Picture Talk" section that contains questions designed to stimulate thought and expand vocabulary. A "Let's Explore" and "Try This" section challenges children to explore their world intellectually, to recognize and resolve problems, and to interact positively with the people around them.

The stories, poems, and pictures were all developed with a specific purpose, ". . .to provide a forum for discussion which can lead children to a greater understanding and acceptance of different people and cultures." This is achieved in a way that is exciting, creative, and fun. A teacher's activity guide accompanies the In My World series.
