Being fired is just about the most terrible spectre facing men and women in the workforce in a time of ever-dwindling job opportunities. No matter what euphemism the employer uses, being fired HURTS. What is more, it can hurt the employer as well. Employees, particularly executives who have fallen into the trap of allowing their place in the corporate structure to fill their lives almost to the exclusion of other interests, no longer submit tamely to the pink slip form of termination. Wrongful dismissal actions are almost as terrifying to employers as being let go is to their employees.

Fire Power is essential reading for anyone ever likely to be in the unhappy position of firing an employee, or still worse, that of being fired. Nothing can make the experience a pleasant one, but it need not be utterly traumatic, nor need it result in recriminations and lawsuits, if carefully planned and humanely approached.

The author, a practising lawyer experienced in this area, sets out the correct procedures to be followed, with advice for both employer and employee, illustrated by case studies, including at least one example of chicanery that should serve as a warning to all who read.Clear, precise, practical, and informative in an area still not entirely defined, this book should be read with care by anyone who is now or who plans at some time in the future to be active in the business world.
