Volume 13 Number 6 1985 November This work is backed by the indisputable authority of the University of Toronto Faculty of Library and Information Science, under the editorship of Claire England. In its seventh edition (the reviewer has not seen the sixth edition), revised and enlarged, it is intended to provide students of the faculty with representative samples of the types of materials available to Canadian libraries. It does not claim to be comprehensive. To facilitate the viewing of the materials by students, a location symbol to libraries in Toronto is added to each reference. England's guide does not list purely Canadian works as does Ryder's Canadian Reference Sources ¹, and as might be implied by the title, but it also includes samples from the United States and Great Britain. Division into major sections of "General Reference," "Humanities," "Social Sciences," and "Science and Technology," with sub-sections of individual subjects, facilitates quick reference to any particular area of study. Each subject has subheadings such as "Guides," "Bibliographies," "Abstracts and Indexes," and "Annuals and Handbooks." Annotations are brief but succinct. A title index with cross-references is given at the end of the bibliography. No prices are quoted, and the reader is cautioned against using this work as a buying guide. Reference should be made to the section "Aids to the Selection of Books and Materials for Library Collections," where selection aids, including CM, are listed. Although primarily intended for library school student use, England's guide is a valuable reference tool, and should be on the shelves of any reference librarian who prizes Ryder's Canadian Reference Sources and Sheehy's Guide to Reference Books.
