Originally published in French as le Petit Débrouillard and Les Petits Débrouillards, this book of experiments was developed in association with the University of Quebec Press and syndicated in a weekly column "Hebdo-science" in over seventy magazines and newspapers.

The experiments cover a wide range of activities demonstrating principles of biology, chemistry, physics, and mathematics. Each experiment includes a simple statement of a principle, a list of the materials needed, and easy-to-follow instructions. The materials, such as paper, elastics, pop bottles, and drinking straws are readily available. The step-by-step instructions have been safety-tested and can be performed, for the most part, without supervision. The activities should prove interesting to junior level students, although it is questionable whether the explanation of all the principles could be understood by this age group. A science consultant who examined the book suggested that a number of the experiments could be set up by a teacher in the classroom with the student suggesting the reasons for the results.

Two-colour cartoon illustrations by Jacques Goldstyn add to the enjoyment of the book. Whether used in the home or in the school, the format and informal tone should appeal, as the cover suggests, to "young people of all ages." Recommended for school and public libraries.
