Each of these volumes contains five office assignments that simulate activities typical to business offices. Each contains a variety of documentation and calls for the use of those skills that students of office procedures are expected to acquire. The books are expendable and call for the use of materials commonly found in offices.

There is a wide gulf between the milieux of the business office and the secondary school or business college. The methods of bridging this gulf usually take the form of work experience, where, students spend some time in a working environment, and simulation, where an attempt is made to create typical working experiences within the classroom. On the Job is a well-organized example of the later method.

Rosemarie McCauley has provided a variety of assignements which give the student an initial picture of the nature of work carried out in a variety of office situations. The assignments are realistic within the confines of the format, and demand from the student a range of practical and personal skills. The contents are clearly printed and presented in an attractive manner. These books provide a very good introduction to office practices in sufficient variety to make the student aware of the uniqueness yet similarity among business offices.
