Pre-School-Grade 2 Reviewed by Fran Newman Volume 13 Number 5 1985 September This is a little, inexpensive paperback story about a dog and a cat, well, two cats. Jill is a very doggy dog. She is black and white with chocolate eyes and she is a bit of a sissy. She stays at home in her yard, eating from her red dinner dish and wearing her raincoat (She lives in British Columbia). A cat scares her one day by magnifying its body until it looks HUGE. Jill runs away, wondering if she can ever use this trick. It turns out that she patterns the cat's actions when facing a very large cat that has frightened all the neighborhood dogs. Only ... it was not a cat, it was a cougar. Jill is a heroine. Rothstein's illustrations vary, with one colour, one black and white in somewhat equal proportions. The drawings are all right, but not memorable. In fact the whole book is not memorable.
