This is the fifth edition of a popular introductory text for college and university students. The graphs, charts, and statistical material have all been updated to make the book more relevant. It also contains a glossary of common terms, a valuable new addition.

Topics are presented to show students the essential simplicity of economic reasoning. After the goals of each general topic have been stated, Stager gives the basic economic theory. This is followed by an examination of what policies were used in Canada to deal with economic problems.

This book is clearly written and easy to read. This is a definite plus at a time when there is so much confusion in the public mind about economic concerns. Anyone who relies only on the press will become quite frustrated at the contradictory nature of much economic information. Stager's clear presentation will help to overcome this problem.

There are other similar texts. Teachers will want to know why Stager's is a better choice. In my opinion, it is easier to understand. The use of bold captions, highlighting in red, and a review at the end of each chapter, make this a useful book for students. The study of economics should be enjoyable. Stager's book goes a long way to fulfilling this objective. Those who use it will be better able to understand economic decision making in Canada today. There is also a handy workbook that contains a variety of review questions. Students can test themselves to determine how well they have understood the material in the text.
