This compact paperback guide to over thirteen hundred Vancouver restaurants by anthropologist Cyril Belshaw should prove useful to both residents and visitors. The entries are arranged geographically and include codes for type of cuisine, credit cards accepted, decor, and a rating from no star to three stars. The annotations vary in length from a few words to a page and a half. Reference is also made to the evaluations of some of the restaurants found in several other restaurant guides, such as The Best Places (Gordon Soules, 1983) and Taberner Vancouver Restaurant Survey (Privately published, 1983). The symbols used in these other guides are not explained, however, so a note such as "Brewster **15" does not mean much. The usefulness of the book in libraries outside of the Vancouver area, particularly school libraries, will be quite limited. Recommended for public and high school libraries in the Vancouver area.
