CIP Post-Secondary Reviewed by Thomas F. Chambers Volume 13 Number 5 1985 September Ronald Landes is a professor at Saint Mary's University in Halifax. He has previously written The Canadian Polity: A Comparative Introduction* which teaches Canadian politics by comparing it to the American and British systems. I have used it as a text for college students and found it very satisfactory. Canadian Politics: A Comparative Reader is an excellent companion to Landes's earlier work, or any introductory Canadian political text. It contains thirty-five articles by over forty writers, all experts in the subjects covered. The book is divided into seven broad categories; "The Constitution and Federalism," "The Executive Branch of Government," "The Legislative Branch of Government," "The Judicial Branch of Government," "Political Culture," "Political Parties," and "Electoral and Political Behavior." The inclusion of articles by many writers gives this book more depth than a text by a single writer. It also gives the reader a broader perspective than is possible in a book by one author. Many of the articles are thought provoking and controversial. They are easily understood and could be assigned as a book of readings.
