The Faculty of Education at the University of Toronto has published yet another booklet in its series Social Problems in Canada.

Dr. Reuven P. Bulka, author of Loneliness, has written many books and articles on psychological themes and is the editor of the Journal of Psychology and Judiaism. In his latest work, he explores current research on the subject of loneliness and brings it together in a sensitive and well-written manner. Dr. Bulka begins by defining loneliness; he then explores not only the psychological but also the societal causes of loneliness, discusses the incidence of loneliness in our society and the psychological and physical consequences of it, and in the last chapter, offers some practical advice on how to counter the problem. Dr. Bulka has also included an annotated bibliography of selected works, in addition to a list of relevant supplementary readings.

Not a pop psychology book in any way, nevertheless a sensitive treatment of the subject aimed at the layperson. Recommended.
