CIP Grades 7 and up Reviewed by Hugh Cook Volume 13 Number 3 1985 May Charles Sauriol is author of Remembering the Don*, a publication that was widely acclaimed for its authenticity and the memories it evoked. Tales of the Don will probably be as enthusiastically accepted. Using his diary to refresh his memories, Charles Sauriol weaves together one anecdote after another to create a folksy thoroughly enjoyable history of the Don Valley as he remembers it. Even those who have no knowledge of the Don River and its tributaries, can relate to this tale. He writes of his experiences on nature hikes, old land marks, maple syrup production, gardening, bee-keeping, and so on. From each little episode, one gains a forgotten memory of one's own or a bit of information previously unknown, e.g., poison ivy nectar makes delicious honey. Several interesting black-and-white photographs are used throughout the chapters. For those who wish knowledge of Toronto, particularly from 1920-1980, the many tales related here would be of exceptional value. Many of Charles Sauriol's friends are noted conservationists, and it is pleasant to read of some of their personal experiences as they tramped the trails of the Don with the author.
