Both authors have taught family studies; Shannon with the Toronto Board of Education and Tamara with Hamilton Board. Their expertise, as well as the fact that this book is their third, combine to make this another success. Previous titles are More Kids In The Kitchen* and The Kids Food Book.** Ferrier wrote the introductory book of the series, Kids In The Kitchen.***

Bakebook explains methods of baking for cookies, cakes, muffins, biscuits, quick and yeast breads. This is followed by recipes that have a brief introduction, as well as an indicator of the recipe's level of difficulty, easy, medium, or hard.

The authors have obviously put a lot of thought and planning into their book of recipes, with clarity foremost in mind. Recipes list ingredients in both imperial and metric measurement. They also list all utensils needed and instructions are thorough without being condescending. "How to" illustrations help explain special techniques.

I appreciate the care taken in designing the book's format. Its spiral binding helps the book to lie flat. Most pages have only one recipe per page, thus eliminating confusion. The large, clear print is well-spaced to allow easy reading as well. Pages are numbered, and the index, arranged by topic, is handy for reference.

My fourteen-year-old daughter tried the chocolate chip muffins and shortbread, and I made the butterscotch oatmeal refrigerator cookies. We certainly intend to try many more recipes because the results were absolutely delicious!

Boys and girls who do not think they can do much in the kitchen should try recipes from this (or their other books). It is an inspiration for all! I definitely recommend The Kids' Bakebook as a library addition, or even as a gift.
