This latest offering by the author of Puddleman ¹ explores the all too familiar childhood trauma of being the target of a bully. Cyril is in the wrong place at the wrong time and becomes the victim of ugly Augey Crumley. With the aid of Maggie, the Greenapple Street genius Cyril ultimately "takes care of" Crumley in a humorous fashion.

Staunton's imaginative handling of a familiar situation is superbly matched by Tina Holdcroft's colourful and humorous illustrations. Maggie, Cyril and Augie are lively and believable characters who will appeal to older primary and junior audiences.

Recommended.
