Turner Volume 13 Number 2 1985 March The versatile Trueman, retired editor of two Saint John, N.B., daily newspapers, had his first humorous book, My Cousin Elva, published in 1955. In 1969, You're only as old as you act won the Stephen Leacock Award for Humour. Between and after, there have been other books of humour, New Brunswick history and travel, tall tales, and cookbooks which he co-authored with his wife and also illustrated. Life's Odd Moments is a delightful collection of brief sketches, in prose and poetry, of one man's jousting with everyday "misadventures." In these often sardonic vignettes, the joke is usually turned on the writer. The poetry is both original and otherwise (anonymous). The author's own cartoon-type line drawings will add to the reader's chuckling. Those schools needing good-natured Canadian humour should consider it for their collections, even though it will have more popular appeal for adult readers. Lillian M.
