On retiring after 22 years in the RCAF, with a distinguished record in WW II Bomber Command, Doug Harvey wrote Boys, Bombs and Brussels Sprouts,* the story of a 19-year-old thrust into the terrifying world of night bombing. This excellent book was followed by The Tumbling Mirth, ** a collection of stories, reminiscences and jokes about life in the RCAF, subtitled "Remembering the Air Force."

Laughter-Silvered Wings: Remembering the Air Force II is a continuation of The Tumbling Mirth, motivated by a spate of letters to the author offering additional stories.

The author's avowed intention in writing this book is to "show the spirit that encompassed all aspects of the R.C.A.F. ...Spirit was the one thing that made that magnificent service supreme and, of course, it's the one missing ingredient in Canada's present unified charade."

Thus, through this collection of adventures, mishaps, practical jokes, and sometimes imaginative anecdotes, from men and women from all over Canada, there runs a sense of affection and pride in their Service, a companionship and care for each other.

Laughter-Silvered Wings is a pleasant nostalgia trip for some. For the younger group, it is a peek at what made their elders tick, evoking a possible understanding and a hushed, even shocked, "Did Grandpa/Grandma really do those things?!"

The preservation of these yarns is a worthy cause.
