Waldstein divides his biographical anecdotes into three parts, telling about his life at home, his life in the community and his adventures "out in the world." His memories are of the early days, when families in small isolated villages relied on themselves and their community to supply most of their own needs-food, company and entertainment. Waldstein was born in Austria and moved to Canada after serving with the Allied forces in World War II. He settled in Beaton, Ontario, where he ran a general store and maintained, by editing the Rotary Club Bulletin for thirteen years, the interest in writing he had developed in school.
