Mickey Andrews Dobro Theatre almost falls under that category. Followers of bluegrass or country -and-western music know that the dobro is a versatile background instrument, resembling in sound a cross between a mandolin and a Hawaiian guitar. It can be made to do interesting things, so Andrews's spotlighting it is not really the problem with Dobro Theatre. Of the eleven selections on the disc, seven are original pieces, and one is a Mozart adaptation. For the most part, these songs sound like something vaguely familiar. The melodies are repetitive and the arrangements full and overdone. The remaining pieces are done well but are lost in the crowd. Overall, Dobro Theatre is boring and uninspiring. There is nothing "theatrical" about it. It could be used as background music in the library elevator, but even that does not justify its purchase. Frank Loreto, Rainy River H.S., Rainy River, Ont.
