POCKET CRIMINAL CODE AND MISCELLANEOUS STATUTES,
rev. ed. Agincourt (Ont.), Carswell, c1984.712pp, paper, $9.95, ISBN 0459-3620-7.
Volume 13 Number 1
This book was designed as a companion to The Police Officers' Manual (Carswell, 1983). It is a small book (41/2 x 7 inches) and has a soft cover. It contains The Criminal Code and a number of statutes, including the Canada Evidence Act, the Canadian Bill of Rights, the Combines Investigation Act, the Constitution Act 1982, the Criminal Records Act, the Extradition Act, the Food and Drugs Act, the Identificiation of Criminals Act, the Interpretation Act, the Narcotics Control Act, and the Young Offenders' Act. An index to both the Criminal Code and the miscellaneous statutes makes access to the information easier. A table of concordance for the Criminal Code relates sections of the 1970 code with its counterpart in 1953; this is of assistance when reading old cases that refer to previous section numbers. The book contains no commentary or cases to help to interpret any of the sections. Those who require further guidance should get Martin's Annual Criminal Code, which contains the major cases relevant to various sections of the code. The pocket code, however, does compile the major pieces of federal legislation and would be a handy reference for the wording of particular statutes.
