Written for and culled from a creative writing journal at Central Elgin Collegiate, this collection of fourteen stories and fifty-eight poems represents the work of forty student authors. The poetry is free verse; the prose is patterned, of the type that never explains wherein only the final sentence elucidates. The pieces exhibit a distinct preoccupation with loss and death, with no relieving humour at all. The overall effect is rather depressing: is this really how our talented young people see life in Canada? Although the selections are somewhat overwritten, as is the tendency of young authors, they are fine examples for creative writing classes in secondary schools or colleges. The editors are to be commended for making the collection available; however, the first edition is only of five hundred copies in high-quality format with an attractive, rainy cover.
