Both book(lets) are glossy, colourful productions with easily read texts, a sure-fire formula for encouraging students to browse and read. The text, however, is an uninterrupted essay continuing from page to page with little or no reference to the companion photographs. Information provided is a relatively superficial survey of the geography, history, science and culture of these areas. The occasional explanation of a fact would spark the interest of a tourist or a Canadian student, (Canada derives its name from "Aca nada," which translates, "There is nothing.")

Coloured photographs, varying in size and format, are artfully composed landscapes and seascapes. The people of these regions are almost completely ignored, whether pursuing their occupations, producing their crafts or simply enjoying traditional events. Certain photos tend to be universal: a kite in a Montreal store window or a rural home bathed by winter moonlight do little to enlarge one's knowledge of these provinces. The oversized (11 1/4 x 32 1/2 inches) centerfold presents nine different photos rather than impressive panoramic views that might justify this relatively costly process in publishing. Photo captions are extremely vague and brief. Identifications such as "In P.E.I." and "In New Brunswick" are of little help to the curious reader. Not a single map has been included in either publication. No index or table of contents is provided. Not recommended for other than a look book.
