This booktalk guide is a handbook produced by members of the B.C. Teacher Librarians' Association. The range of novels is impressive, including American and British titles published since 1978, as well as many Canadian books, both current and retrospective, that are still in print.

The format is standardized and easy to read. Listed by author, each booktalk comprises several paragraphs to be presented as written, followed by a plot summary. Themes and related titles are also discussed. Read aloud passages are given by page, with a short phrase indicating what the main idea of the selection is. A Fry reading level is cited for each book. The author of each booktalk is also listed.

A thorough subject index and separate title index are included to facilitate the selection of related books to introduce together. Many of the headings are incompatible with Sears and should not be used as catalogue headings.

This collection focusing on young adult relationships should be a welcome addition to any resource centre. The scope of the handbook makes it useful for guidance counsellors and teachers wanting to explore via fiction many of the problems and dilemmas facing junior high students. Highly recommended.
