Here is the book that many Ontarians have been waiting for: it puts our province in its place during this bicentennial year, puts it in its place with contrived anecdotes, barbed satire, and comic facetiae. Almost nothing is spared, from Laura Secord's bovine guide through our present board of censors, with politicians scattered along the way, along with favourites such as local wines.

The audience for this entertainment will require some knowledge of provincial history. Presenting it to most students in school will prove frustrating and disappointing. A pity. There are too many good pieces in it to waste it. It could be the best souvenir of this special year.

As the critic's blurb on the back cover says:

A superficial effort... riddled with historical inaccuracies... unfounded, fanciful speculation… is in short, required classroom reading.
      Egerton Ryerson (deceased)

I agree, except for the "classroom" comment. It might even make our history remembered. Excellent black-and-white cartoonery amongst the buffoonery!
