This little book is not a chronological history of two schooners, it is a racy biography of two prominent, well-loved Nova Scotians—the almost human, original Bluenose, and her namesake-replica, Bluenose II. It is a lively tale, launched to coincide with the tall ships Parade-of-Sail in Halifax in June of 1984, during which Bluenose II played a leading role. Its author, Silver Donald Cameron, well-known across Canada in a wide variety of writing styles, has done a masterful job of interweaving the histories of the two ships, their designer, owners, skippers, crews and adventures. He captures the feeling of life aboard the Bluenose II with a first-person account of his journey from Halifax to Atlantic City in 1983, during which he took his turn at the helm. Already a familiar sight to Canadians who see them on a fifty cent stamp and a silver dime, the ships are given vitality and character in Cameron's book.
