Peter Coffin, journalist, pilot, and computer expert, receives a phone call from a friend in London who arranges to meet him, and then the friend disappears without leaving a trace. The novel follows the attempts of Coffin and his friend's sister, Georgina, to find out what happened. Their search uncovers an elaborate scheme involving the shipment of radioactive wastes on commercial airlines (a practice that apparently goes on now).

The novel moves quickly, with plenty of suspense, as the pair move from England to France and finally to Canada, where, in Labrador, the secret Coffin has been trying to uncover is revealed slowly. The writing is crisp; the characters are clearly outlined; and the settings are conveyed accurately. It is a good read and would make a good addition to senior high and adult paperback collections.
