An alphabet card set with a difference! Designed to be used in both French and English classes, the twenty-six white cardboard cards with a black letter displayed in upper- and lower-case form and an interesting watercolour illustration of an animal or object on each, seem to reinforce the concept that learning can be fun. Unfortunately, if the cards are affixed to the wall (as it appears likely they will be) the French/English titles, which are on the reverse side of each card, will become useless as a teaching device as they will not be seen. The author, Annette Boland states three possible uses: 1. "Display for decorative purposes in classrooms, libraries, ...or any other area frequently used by children," 2. "A model of correct letter formation when teaching printing," and 3. "To develop and enrich vocabulary." The author's advice re the accents on the two "e's" in elephant is helpful. It should be noted that, because the capital "I" and small "1" are written in a similar fashion, they may pose a potential teaching/learning problem. Clearly this alphabet set is of value, but the problems cited above restrict its usefulness immensely.
