Sonia Craddock, author and assistant professor in the area of language arts and children's literature, has added a delightful novel to the Jeanpac series, The Treasure Hunt. The series is a Canadian paperback fiction collection for children aged eight to twelve.

The Treasure Hunt, an adventure story set in the Fraser Valley, deals with two fourth grade students, Jamie and Albert. Having watched a film on archaeology, they decide to hunt for buried treasure in the schoolyard. Following a series of disastrous mishaps, they find themselves in deep trouble with the principal. In the end, they do find treasure, but of an unexpected variety.

This humorous, fun-filled story depicts a school-life experience with which the young reader can identify. The eight full-page black-and-white drawings enhance the text and aid in the child's transition from picture book to novel. The large-print text, appropriate vocabulary, and appealing denim-look cover make this novel attractive to the child developing his or her own interests in reading. This book and other reasonably-priced paperbacks in the series should be considered for personal and library use.
