An acknowledged expert in the field of collecting and the author of the Canadian Old Home Catalogue (Fleet, 1980) and Collector's Item (Fleet, 1981), John Hearn provides the young Canadian collector with an indispensable guide. With the recent sticker craze, collecting has received renewed popularity. Now children whose interest has been stimulated have a resource book available to further a hobby as a collector.

The Young Collector is filled with ideas on what to collect, how to collect, and what to do with the collection. More than forty-five collectibles are discussed, such as postcards, shells, comics, and thimbles. The suggestions given are inexpensive and available. Addresses are provided for clubs for certain collectibles such as model horses and trade dollars.

The appeal of this book lies not only in its content but also in the attractive format. Each collectible, listed in alphabetical order, is clearly discussed with an easy-to-read text and accompanied by charming black-and-white illustrations by Ian Leventhal. The Young Collector is a first-rate handbook for any child wishing to venture into the fun and fascinating world of collecting.
