Soundless he seeks, Shadow among the
        Moving on pads black-velvet, steeped
        in darkness.

These two lines, from "Shadow In The Night," one of a half-dozen poems included in Shadow Cat, reflect the sensitive mood that Sylvia Hahn portrays in her work. Felinophiles will pounce on this small paperbound publication, not only for its delicate description of cats, but also for its fine woodcuts that portray the various moods touched upon in the poems.

This thin volume will find a place in cat-lover's hearts along with collections such as The Cat Book, by Richard Shaw and T.S. Eliot's Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats.

Sylvia Hahn is best known for her wood engravings and murals. She has been associated with the Royal Ontario Museum as an artist since 1934.
