This critically acclaimed book, first published in 1975, has now been reprinted in a paperback edition. The standard of the original volume has been maintained with the use of the same high quality paper and reproduction techniques. The sturdy binding should withstand repeated use.

Both photographs and text evoke the mystery, splendour, and unpredictability that is Lake Superior. To read the book is to travel the north shore of this great lake. It is also a plea to preserve this wilderness.

The text is very readable, and the photographs are breathtaking. There are ninety-eight colour plates, which are identified. A table of contents and index are not included but are not required as the text follows a logical order describing the coast from Sault Ste. Marie to Grand Portage. There is also a selected bibliography.

This book could have a variety of uses. It is delightful for browsers. There is information here for social science classes, and photography and literature classes can use it as an example of quality photography and writing.
