The simple pattern of the fairy tale with its familiar elements of magic, heroes, princesses, and happy endings appeals to young readers as they enter the land of make-believe. Miller's Helper is a delightful new addition to that realm. Once upon a time in a land by the sea, lived a young miller, George. He heard of a beautiful princess who lived in an enchanted castle and who offered immortality to anyone who found her. George watched as armies of knights and adventurers '"passed by to conquer her castle and then returned, defeated. Intrigued, George set off. Miller's Helper tells of George's successful quest and his decision whether to be immortal with the princess in the castle under the sea or to live an ordinary life on land with his family, friends, and his new love. Miller's Helper is told in a simple, yet charming style. The vivid descriptions combined with the full-page illustrations add interest and life to this magical account.
