Grades 9 and up. Reviewed by Louise Dick. Volume 12 Number 1 1984 January Analysis of Latin derivatives in the English language is an important part of many high school Latin courses. B.C. Taylor's booklet provides a basis for such study. Twenty-one units include vocabulary lists and exercises in using Latin derivatives to complete English sentences. The material is clearly explained and units are short, but a working knowledge of English grammar is certainly a pre-requisite. The exercises require thoughtful study and precise application of vocabulary and principles explained in each unit. Some teachers may prefer to use the booklet as a resource for lessons rather than as a student text. English classes in word study will find supplementary or enrichment material in the succinct survey of English language development and especially in the list of prefixes and suffixes of Latin origin.
