In association with The Fitness Institute in Toronto, David Steen is promoting excellent activities to involve children in cardio -vascular exercise. In his introduction, he explains the theories behind aerobic and anaerobic exercise and quotes convincing figures about the fitness level of most North American children. To build on activities already familiar to youngsters is evident in his approach. The chapters focus on specific forms such as aerobic games, races, and relays. A short fitness test is outlined at the back of the book.

The format of the book has much to recommend it. A thorough index, boldface titles for each set of movements, clear directions, and dozens of photos of children in action will give confidence to any teacher or coach approaching fitness for the first time. Its soft cover may be a disadvantage to those wanting to use the book as a manual while leading a group. Spiral binding and stiff covers would be welcome. This book contains lots of interesting ideas and variations and goes a long way in popularizing aerobic fun for kids.
