This glossary of abbreviations establishes words and word combinations for use in drawings and in engineering and scientific writing. It does not promote their use; however, it does include new abbreviations.

The glossary contains seven thousand technical terms and their abbreviations. It is a composite of CSA Standard 285-1983 and will be particularly useful to engineers, scientists, drafts people, specification and technical writers, and information specialists.

The text provides several listings: an alphabetical list by term; an alphabetical list by abbreviation, an alphabetical list by symbol, a list of colours, and a table of elements and their symbols. In addition, a bibliography of reference material for further research and clarification that is considered as ". . .a complete record of Canadian, U.S.A., and international standards dealing with abbreviations and symbols" is included.

The text is recommended for purchase by secondary school libraries, colleges, and academic institutions. It will be of use to those entering or engaged in engineering and scientific research.
