The text of The Who: The Farewell Tour reads like an exciting drama. Author Peter Goddard is the rock and jazz critic for the Toronto Star. He is an excellent writer, knowledgeable in his field. As he follows the beginning of shows in the last tour of forty cities, the excitement mounts. TheWho have been called a musical explosion that has been successful for eighteen years.

Rock fans will find most of their questions answered in the text. Personal history is given for group members so that we feel we know them and their problems. What really makes the book work is the exceptional quality of the extensive photographs. Philip Kamin is a graduate of Ryerson Poly technical Institute. The photos vary from personal close-ups to performing shots and mass audience views. Some are in high tech colour, while others are effectively produced in black and white. The glossy paper adds to the glitz mood of the topic. The only thing missing is the sound itself.

The book is set up in eight chapters as it follows the tour. Each has many photographs with sufficient text to enhance and explain the tour. The type is small but well spaced on the page. There is no index or table of contents. In this case it does not seem to matter. The book will appeal to all Who fans.
