Eleven-year-old Jason Reid was coming home from school one hot afternoon when he came across Quicksilver, the Elster of the Third Order, who offered him three wishes. Jason, who has read and heard enough stories to realize that wishes are easily wasted on hasty and greedy decisions, put his daring plan into action. His third wish was always to have three more wishes. What were some of the things that Jason wished for? Were they all greedy and selfish wishes? Were the wishes too difficult to grant? How did the wishes affect Jason and his baseball team? All these questions were answered in the book. The book is fast moving, exciting, and should appeal to young readers. This book would also be a good basis for a teacher presenting a "fairy tale" unit by providing discussion topics. The illustrations by John Richmond enhance the story and the book.
