PIERRE ELLIOTT TRUDEAU AND HIS UNEARTHLY ADVENTURES: AN ILLUSTRATED HISTORY OF TRUDEAUMANIA
Jude Waples.
Volume 11 Number 6.
At least one section of our labour force has reason to be thankful to Pierre Trudeau for employment, namely, our cartoonists and satirists. As our beloved prime minister hints at retirement, everyone is rushing into print to take a swipe at him before it is too late. Jude Waples's book is more of a novelty item, suitable only for the truly dedicated Trudeau-hater. The author takes about forty quotations from the Trudeau years and ties them loosely together in cartoon story form. The end result is a silly, very unflattering portrait of Pierre. The clever drawings cannot rescue dated material. Resurrecting "fuddle duddle" twelve years later displays something short of originality. And, Lord, when will we stop hearing that old one about Trudeau walking on the water of his $200,000 swimming pool?
