Volume 11 Number 6. 1983 November. This book was produced with the assistance of a grant from the Toronto Sesquicentennial Board and has subsequently been chosen for an award by the same board. Robert Bateman has written a three-page introduction reminiscing about Toronto in the 1930s. Bill Ivy then gives a fourteen-page historical view of Toronto as it changed from a nature setting to the present-day city. This is followed by double-page captions for each set of twelve full-page photographs to a maximum of ninety-six captions and photos. Bill Ivy is an excellent nature photographer as is evident in this book. Twenty-eight photos are of plants, and fifty-seven are from the animal kingdom, of these, twenty are of insects. Eleven scenes complete the photographic presentation. No particular order is apparent, but the careful observer should be able to locate most of these items within the Toronto area in any given year. The overall effect is quite pleasant. This makes an excellent coffee-table book that one could browse at one's leisure. Hugh A. Cook, Calico P. S., North York, ON.
