ARTS AND THE CURRICULUM FOR THE 8Os
Judith Strand Major.
Volume 11 Number 6.
This pamphlet proposes to discuss "ways to develop arts programs" in Ontario schools. However, it spends much of its time justifying arts programs and criticizing boards arid teachers for their attitudes towards them. Moreover, while it maintains that all students should be involved in an arts program and that accessibility must be universal, one of its three main recommendations is to establish "a provincial school for the arts." Such contradictions combined with the ill-explained "lesson plans" for integrating the arts into the core curriculum (a second major recommendation) make this booklet of little value to board member and teacher alike. This discussion of the state of the arts in the schools of Ontario is not a state of the art production.
