Volume 11 Number 5. 1983 September. A large basketful of orphan puppies is abandoned on Miss Goldfinch's doorstep. She names then after herbs and flowers. Six are cute and cuddly, but the seventh, Mustard, is yellow, awkward, voracious, and always in trouble. The cute puppies are easily sold when they become too much for Miss Goldfinch to handle, but no one seems to want the homely Mustard. He finally proves himself to be more than an eating, mischief-making machine and finds himself a new master. Newly independent readers will enjoy this story, which is more than adequately supplemented by Barb Reid's very amusing and busy illustrations. Elizabeth Moran, Mississauga, ON.
