The CASNP is a national non-profit organization dedicated to educating non-Native Canadians toward a better understanding and respect for the history and culture of Canada's original people of Indian, Inuit and Métis ancestry. Catherine Verrall is secretary of the board, and Lenore Keeshig-Tobias is assistant editor of Ontario Indian magazine.

This bibliography is especially timely in light of the new Canadian Constitution and renewed interest in native rights and culture. Stringent guidelines of accuracy, attitude, and values are outlined in the introduction. CASNP intends to update the list regularly, probably every second year. The spiral bound paper cover is adequate for its intended use as a library or curriculum selection tool.

Materials listed cover the following categories: books to avoid; books, curriculum guides, and audiovisual materials for children and elementary schools; history and biography; adult fiction; general; by and about native women; education for and about native people; kits and films suitable for secondary school and adult education; native spirituality; art, drama, and radio; maps; lists of information centres and sources, and periodicals received by CASNP.

Some items have brief, informative annotations, and one hopes future editions will have more. Imprints chosen are mainly from the 70s and 80s with a few notable exceptions such as Craven's I Heard the Owl Call my Name (1967) and Henry's Wilderness Messiah (1966). This resource list is highly recommended for the professional collection and should be in every school library.
