Magadini, whose musical credentials include a graduate degree and experience in recording, performing, teaching, writing, and lecturing, uses this book to elaborate the premise that music is best learned by experience. An awareness of the sounds and rhythms in a child's daily environment may be used to illustrate basic musical concepts. The author has provided a complete music program consisting of a series of musical concepts and activities that have proven to be successful with children. Activities, which include improvisation, composition, rhythm, instrument making, etc., are grouped into nineteen chapters. Also included are black-and-white drawings, photographs, and a discography listing recommended compositions that may be used with the activities included in the text. A unique book that is highly recommended for children and for adults working with children. Extremely useful for school libraries and large public library collections.
