Canada's Natural Resources is one of a five-book series produced as a joint project of the Canada Studies Foundation and the Atlantic Institute of Education. Each chapter is devoted to a resource area including energy, water, agriculture, minerals, and forestry. The statistical charts, though only current to the 1970s, nicely support each unit. The chapters are factual and easily read. They show how each resource is dependent on basic features of Canada and are in turn interrelated to the whole environment. Other topics show how the use or abuse of our resources affects our Canadian society. The issues covered include the expected ones and also more controversial issues with no clear right or wrong answer concerning the situation.

The teacher's notes at the back are the unique selling feature of this book. The twenty-six pages of ideas can be used either in a logical progressive or issue-oriented study of the resources. Innovative sample lessons are given using newspaper articles, maps, or case studies. With a minimum of effort they can be used right in the classroom at any secondary level. The reader is also directed to other sources of information and teaching aids. Most teachers should be able to use the facts and suggestions to adapt the lessons to their specific needs. This will produce an unending supply of lesson materials. The problem with Canada's Natural Resources is not whether to use it, but how to use all its potential resources to their fullest extent.
