Boston Mills Press continues to provide interesting books for rail enthusiasts with this latest publication.

Train Wrecks for Fun and Profit fascinates, delights, and horrifies steam locomotive lovers, who must gasp in dismay at the cold-blooded fashion in which dozens of pairs of beautiful steam engines were wantonly destroyed simply for the amusement and entertainment of the American public during the early part of this century and the latter part of the last.

F. A. Schmidt chronicles the story of staged locomotive collisions that took pidce all over America during a period of over forty years bringing thrills and excitement to thousands of spectators. He tells the stories of many crashes and of Joseph S. Connolly, the man who devoted most of his life to the staging of the collisions for the delight of the public. The stories are retold using accounts from the newspapers of the day in the cities and towns where the crashes were staged and are accompanied by many photographs.

The book lacks an index, a table of contents, and a bibliography and is, therefore, not recommended for reference use. The physical presentation of the book is quite good, with clear type and the high quality photographic reproduction that we have come to expect from this publisher. It is unfortunate that some of the photographs available to illustrate this book were either blurry, grainy, or of other poor quality in the original (the portrait of Connolly is an example), thus detracting from the otherwise pleasing whole.

This book will be a happy addition to the leisure collections of libraries that serve rail fans and model railroaders, who are always eager to advance their studies of "ferroequinology," the study of the Iron Horse.
