Volume 11 Number 2. 1983 March. Seymour the Stegosaurus is a lively play suitable for production by grades 6 up, although a viewing audience of grades 4-8 would certainly enjoy it. Seymour is a dinosaur who chews a magical bullrush that transports him into the twentieth century and by a remarkable coincidence, into the study of Doctor Bronski, an ambitious and fraudulent dinosaur expert. Seymour is timorous, but he is befriended and helped by the sympathetic Lily, the young niece of the nasty Ivan Bronski and his gruesome wife Vivian. Most of the comedy is provided by the machinations and felonious intent of the unhappy couple who yearn for fame as discoverers of new information on dinosaurs. Seymour is stoically lovable and usually confused, whilst Lily is attractive, brave, and resourceful, and clearly the perfect heroine. The play is light-hearted, the language simple and effective, and the action never slackens. Most children (grades 4-8) would be amused and charmed by this piece. Eve Williams, MacNaughton H.
