On Hallowe'en, she carefully dresses up as a little girl, but people refuse to give her treats because they think she isn't wearing a costume. At Christmas, her uncle sends her one pair of skates, but she needs two pairs for her four feet. And in the spring, when her friend Matilda Mouse is trying to find a way to carry home the seeds and nuts she has found for her babies, Rosalyn must help her figure out a way to carry everything. In each case, Rosalyn's dilemma is solved by a girl who first befriended her on Hallowe'en, and Rosalyn is very grateful and proud to have such a kind friend. The book is really made up of three separate, although related, stories about Rosalyn Rabbit and her friend. The first two stories in particular show plenty of imagination and action and are likely to appeal to many youngsters. The sentence structure has been kept simple, and the vocabulary is not difficult. (Note: Matilda Mouse does announce that she is pregnant.) William Tobin's two-tone drawings are realistic and yet amusing when they depict such things as a rabbit wearing skates (two pairs!), or dancing with a girl, or wearing clothes and a wig on Hallowe'en.
